Acorp EM501R Android tablet offers the poor man’s solution to the Archos 5
Ready for some more cheap Android tablet news? The Acorp EM501R is going to start offering 4.8-inches of Android 1.5 MID goodness. Yeah, we know, Android 1.5, but this tablet has a major selling point (in addition to Acorp saying they’ll upgrade to 2.2 and manufacturers never lie, right? RIGHT?!) — a wholesale price of $88. This could be a great option for those wanting DivX, MPEG2, MKV, FLAC, OGG and AC3 playback, but can’t afford an Archos 5 Internet Tablet or the minimal MID capabilities of the Dell Streak.
Now, a quick caveat: the cheap price requires a minimum of 1,000 orders, so unless your last name is Moneybanks don’t expect to reap the full nature of this deal. The hope here is that a large distributor will buy bunches of these and sell them around $100. For $100, a 600MHz Rockchip ARM9 CPU MID with 800 x 480 resolution resistive touchscreen, microSD and audio out ain’t that bad. Even better if they actually do upgrade to Android 2.2 and get distribution to the U.S.
