Gemei GM2000 eReader gives you color LCD or E-Ink on the cheap
Don’t expect the Asian eReader market to take a breather despite the recent American market price shakeup (which is far from over). Although most of these eReaders have been in planning for months (or, as is the habit from some Shenzhen companies, weeks), there won’t be much, if any, ebb in the tide in the coming year. After all, there’s an entire world to supply with eReaders. Gemei hopes that their affordable new GM2000 eReader can do just that.
The Gemei GM2000 eReader will sell for 799 Yuan (roughly $120 USD) and will come in a 7-inch color 800 x 480 resolution LCD touchscreen or a traditional E-Ink 800 x 600 resolution screen (which seems erroneous, but according to the source article is accurate). The color version is able to play 1080p videos through the included HDMI and will support a multitude of video codecs, including MKV, FLV, MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, H.263, H.264, 3GP and VC01. Information is a little scarce right now, but it appears both versions will support ePub, PDF, TXT, PDB, UMD, CHM, XLS, PPT and even zipped files. It will also play MP3, WMA, WAV, APE and FLAC audio files.
The GM2000 will comes with 4GB of internal storage and will support SD card expansion up to 32GB. Battery life supplied by the GM2000′s 2500mAh battery should give you 6 hours of video playback or 10 hours of music. Also, the color GM2000 will use a Windows OS, most likely XP.
