HTC dual-screened touch tablet patent may show future of Google Chromepad

A possible early vision of the ChromePad?

A new patent filed by HTC shows that the company may be working on a two touchscreen hinged tablet reminiscent of the Microsoft Courier and the MSI concept shown at CES. The patent shows the device could be used as two touchscreens used for one display or even broken up for individual purposes (like a virtual keyboard on one and interface on the other).

Now keep in mind that this is only a filing and not proof that HTC will be building this particular device. We’re also not sure if it’s intended to be a tablet or phone at this point. But what does keep popping into our heads is that Google and HTC share a very strong relationship; a relationship that is rumored to be working on a certain Chromium OS tablet (something we have branded as the ChromePad). Could this filing be related in anyway to the HTC/Google partnership?

If not, we also know that HTC is working to develop a tablet based on an Android OS as well. Either way, the future is looking particularly interesting for HTC. We hope to see some confirmation of HTC’s tablet commitment soon.
