Crunchgear has a rather small picture of the new NEC tablet PC prototype, but a picture none-the-less. And while the picture isn’t necessarily that satisfying, what NEC plans on doing with their tablet PC is.

Following the same concept as the prototype CrunchPad, NEC will design their tablet to utilize cloud computing. The benefit to this is an extremely fast boot up time (with none of those cumbersome programs having to pre-load). NEC is aiming to create this tablet for businesses for inventory management, retail and food services. However, we’re sure it the technology is sound NEC won’t have the willpower to pass up the consumer market. After all, NEC announced 48 new models of electronics just last week.

The as-of-yet unnamed device (although we speculate it being called the NEC Portal) has an 7 or 8 inch touch screen (judging by the picture) with three interface buttons on the side. NEC has some high expectations for the device — they project it selling between 100k and 200k units a year and hope to eventually hit 1m units annually. Crunchgear says they’re planning on releasing it “this autumn” which means, like, now. Right?
