The Lighthouse SQ7 - billed as the world's first portable social media device

The Lighthouse SQ7 by AdelaVoice and Smart Devices is billing itself as the “first portable social media device.” It is dedicated to running Facebook and Twitter and focuses on the input being by voice through its built-in voice recognition. This tablet hasn’t been announced or leaked until now. We happened to stumble over it after Chris Hassett (CEO of AdelaVoice) — who we interviewed later here — did some preliminary Facebook page updating.

The newly uploaded site, LighthouseTablet.com, has details on the tablet and lists it as having a 7-inch touch screen, 800×480 resolution, WiFi b/g connectivity, a Samsung ARM S3C6410 667MHz processor, 128MB DDR memory, 1GB of flash storage and a 4500 mAH rechargeable battery that provides up to five hours of use or up to twelve hours in standby mode. The device — built by Smart Devices — runs Linux Ubuntu and has a dedicated web browser that uses the WebKit engine. It weighs slightly over one pound and is 7.8″ x 4.7″ x 0.94″ in size.

What is most interesting about this device is the built-in voice recognition. The WebKit browser has the voice recognition integrated into it so you don’t have to peck away with a finger or stylus on the 7-inch screen — instead speak into the device and it will transcribe it into the web address, Twitter or Facebook post. You can also use the SQ7 as a digital photo frame (it comes complete with stand) for your Facebook pictures. It’s currently for sale on the LighthouseTablet.com website for $249 and says that it will begin shipping October 7th. The information on the site has been confirmed as accurate by Chris Hassett.
