Barnes and Noble eReader coming next month

We already knew that Barnes & Noble had tagged the 8-inch touch screen, 3G running iRex eReader as their primary eReader option, but it looks like that’s not enough for the B&N juggernaut — they want their own eReader.

WSJ is reporting that the Barnes & Noble eReader will have a 6-inch E-Ink touch screen and a virtual keyboard. Hey, get this, it will also run Android as its OS (a rumor reported by Gizmodo). The built-in Wifi will make it easy to connect the B&N eReader to the Barnes & Noble online store. That makes three confirmed devices that will use their online stores (iRex and Plastic Logic being the other two).

Also, Best Buy announced today that they are creating a dedicated eReader section in their stores that will sell retail eReader devices. Best Buy will stock the Sony Reader line along with the upcoming iRex eReader. This could be a huge blow to Amazon’s Kindle which is only available online and has no physical retail outlets.

eReaders are expected to be THE top selling gadget this holiday season. It looks like retailers and eReader manufactorers are counting on it.
