TCL Touchlife MID features Android 1.6, 720p and capacitive touch

Full Flash on a 4.8-inch capacitive screen

We’ve been slacking on our PMP and MID reporting as of late. The tablet market has essentially had its damn burst and we’re constantly getting flooded with new tablet releases and tech. Still, there are plenty of worthwhile MID releases that we shouldn’t lose sight of. One of those is the TCL Touchlife Android MID.

The TCL Touchlife features a 4.8-inch 800 x 480 resolution LED touchscreen powered by a RK2808 600MHz CPU. It comes with Android 1.6 and is capable of playing 720p videos through MKV, Xvid and H.264 encoding (in addition to AVI, MOV, TS, RM/RMVB, FLV, 3GP, DAT, MPEG, MP4 and M2TS). It’s wrapped in a metal case with a 0.39-inch thickness — essentially making it the most anorexic MID on the (eventual) market. Oh yeah, and it’s capacitive. That’s right, a capacitive screen on a 4.8-inch MID. That in and of itself is pretty big news usually reserved for MIDs that have a fruit stamped on the back. In addition there’s an accelerometer, battery that lasts for 5 hours of video playback with 7 day standby time. It also can support Flash files, games, online video and a variety of other MID-ish tasks (including internet browsing, email, audio playback, image viewing etc.). Another large feature worth mentioning is the eReader capability which includes TXT, PDF, HTML, CHM, RTF and more.

There’s currently no official word on price, but if reasonible the TCL Touchlife could prove a viable contender for mid-sized MID fans. The capacitive touchscreen coupled with Flash playback and sleek form factor already has us interested.
