The Boogie Board Paperless LCD Writing Tablet – very cool and only $30

The Boogie Board Paperless Writing Tablet

What a cool idea! The Boogie Board is a sketch pad that doesn’t use any paper. Think of it as a dry erase board 2.0 where it displays your interactions via stylus on its LCD screen. Heck, it’s even pressure sensitive and bi-stable — meaning it doesn’t take any power to continually display your doodles.

The Boogie Board Paperless LCD Writing Tablet measures 8.8 x 5.6 inches and is only 1/8th of an inch thick and weighs 4.2 ounces. Essentially, it’s about the same size as a small notepad and affords you a writing area equal to about half a sheet of letter-sized paper. Doodle to your hearts content and when you’re finished simply press the erase button and start again. It’s rated to last for up to 50,000 erases. All this for a cost of under $30 makes this a tablet that you’re likely to buy if you often take notes or draw frequently.

The only downside we can think of is that there’s no recordable method to save your work. If Improv Electronics figures that out they’d have the perfect product. We’ve got one on the way and will be reviewing it next week so stay tuned. Update: See the exclusive hands-on review.

Update: After talking to an Improv Electronics representative, we’ve confirmed that they are indeed working on a recordable Boogie Board tablet that would utilize flash memory and a USB connection to save and download your work. It would be the size and model, just with added storage and USB connection. They anticipate having this new version available for sale within the year but will still sell the current base version. Price on this new recordable model would be around $50.

  1. Looks promising from the picture and if the recordable version is only $50 it could definitely find a market. Only possible to have a black background or can you invert the colors too?

  2. This looks great but I can only find it for $140 on Amazon. Where is it selling for $30??

  3. Make sure to only buy it when it’s being sold by Improv Electronics. Lately two vendors have jumped on the list selling it for over $100. Every couple of days Amazon will list stock from IE for $29.99 before selling out of that shipment again.

  4. The tablet is on sale for $30 at myboogieboard.com I just pre-ordered mine and am very excited, I even had to buy three day shipping instead of ground, I couldn’t wait!

  5. I purchased a Boogie Board today and it’s a fun gadget that would be really, really useful with an internal memory to store notes, doodles and etc. it also needs a cheap slipcase to protect it and a place to stow the stylus. if it comes out with these added features, i think it could be a highly sought after and nearly indispensible product.
