The Latest Video and News on the CrunchPad Tablet

Seems there has not been a lot of news about the Crunchpad since about early July. So I thought I would catch everyone up on what we know. It seems the Crunchpad team is getting close to the launch of the Crunchpad. Rumors say it could be out by November just in time for the holiday season. It is said to have a connections for a keyboard so if you wanted to use one you could. It will also be equipped with camera for video and image capturing.
As we have mentioned in other posts the Crunchpad is basically just web browser. So anything you can do on the web you can do on the Crunchpad including watching YouTube videos and checking you email. I was looking for a good video that demonstrated the Crunchpad and this is the best I could find. You can see at the end of the video they have already developed packaging which means they have gone through some kind of production.
Watch the video and see the specs after the jump.
The specs have changed a bit from prototype to prototype but I believe that they are somewhere close to this:
- 12-inch touchscreen with a 4:3 aspect ratio
- Single-point touchscreen
- Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz (thanks Trooper P)
- 1 GB of ram
- 4 GB flash drive (To store the OS and browser and any cache)
- 1024×768 resolution
- Wifi
- Accelerometer
- VGA Camera
- 4-Cell Battery
- Dimensions: 12.5″ x 9.7″ x 1.3″ (
- Weight: 3 lbs.
- Software: Full install of Ubuntu Linux on the prototype with a custom Webkit browser (TC said they will be “stipping linux down to its core in the next internal release” to improve speed/decrease resources needed & improve battery life).
- Ports: Power, Headset, 1 usb (for plugging in external keyboard if needed)
- Boot time: 10 seconds from cold boot

About the Author
Hey great site,
Just a comment that now the cpu is Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz instead of the Via. Arrington switched it during one of the prototype releases.
Keep it up!

We appreciate the update Trooper P. Thanks for the compliment and we hope you keep reading.
Is that video actually a slide show or is that the CrunchPad making it look that way?
It’s the CrunchPad making it look that way. Flash has issues with the Linux their using and YouTube plays FLV videos. There was some talk in the YouTube comments that it was due to the video recorder not capturing frames but frame rate is to low for that explanation.
There’s a lot of anxious people out there waiting to see new video of the CrunchPad playing YouTube to see if this issue is cleared up.
